Ayer Invitamos a los amigos del jardín y celebramos.
Celebramos la primavera, que este año el jardín cumple treinta años desde su inauguración y que aquí seguimos…y celebramos el principio de una nueva etapa que esperamos que dure al menos otros treinta años. Presentamos el proyecto “Los amigos del jardín” que nace con vocación de ser el origen de algo grande.
Fue un día perfecto, después de tantas lluvias el jardín amaneció luminoso, exuberante y lleno de flores; como cualquiera que sabe que va a recibir a sus mejores amigos.
Gracias a todos los que vinisteis y gracias a todos los que siempre habéis estado ahí.
Yesterday we invited the friends of the garden and celebrated.
We celebrated spring, we celebrated that this year the garden marks thirty years since its inauguration and that we are still here… and we celebrated the beginning of a new stage that we hope will last at least another thirty years. We presented the project ‘The friends of the garden’ which was born with the vocation of being the origin of something great.
It was a perfect day, after so much rain the garden dawned bright, lush and full of flowers; like anyone who knows they are going to receive their best friends.
Thanks to all of you who came and thanks to all of you who have always been there.
La belleza monstruosa de los árboles/The monstrous beauty of trees
Lo mejor de un lugar como el que tenemos es la gente que atrae. Gracias al jardín, hemos conocido a grandes fotógrafos, artistas, escultores, músicos, antropólogos, apasionados de la naturaleza, el arte, las piedras…y a unos cuantos chefs!
Una mañana apareció por aquí el fotógrafo Andrea Savini con un proyecto que llevaba madurando desde niño. De pequeño, asomándose por la ventana de su casa , podía ver un gran árbol desde arriba y desde allí una nueva perspectiva que le encantaba.
La idea de fotografiar árboles así, tenía una clara dificultad por la altura a la que había que subir, pero … ¿y si los árboles fuesen pequeños?
Andrea hizo fotografías de la colección cada principio de primavera, donde todavía las ramas lucían desnudas, pero ya empezaban a apreciarse los primeros signos de vida.
El proyecto se materializó en una preciosa exposición a la que llamó “La belleza monstruosa de los árboles” que viajó primero a Catania en 2023 y finalmente pudo verse en Madrid en 2024 en el Centro de Arte Alcobendas con algunos de los árboles de la colección.
The best thing about a place like this is the people it attracts. Thanks to the garden, we have met great photographers, artists, sculptors, musicians, anthropologists, lovers of nature, art, stones… and a few chefs!
One morning the photographer Andrea Savini appeared with a project he had been working on since he was a child. As a child, leaning out of the window of his house, he could see a big tree from above and from there a new perspective that he loved.
The idea of photographing trees in this way was clearly difficult because of the height needed, but … what if the trees were small?
Andrea took photographs of the collection every early spring, where the branches were still bare, but the first signs of life were already beginning to show.
The project materialised in a beautiful exhibition he called ‘The monstrous beauty of trees’ which first travelled to Catania in 2023 and finally could be seen in Madrid in 2024 at the Centro de Arte Alcobendas with some of the trees from the collection.
Nuevos ejemplares / New trees
Las colecciones tienen que renovarse, unos se van para hacer sitio a los que vienen. La particularidad de esta colección es que está viva, y lo natural en algo vivo es el cambio. En ella se refleja el paso de las estaciones y el ciclo de la vida.
Árboles jóvenes que llegan a su madurez y pasan a formar parte de la exposición, árboles que terminan su ciclo vital y nos dejan o el caso de nuevos ejemplares que vienen de fuera para entrar a formar parte de ella.
Hoy damos la bienvenida a dos árboles que llegan de Japón, tras un larguísimo viaje. Los árboles viajan en barco acondicionados para resistir la travesía. El traslado se hace durante los meses en los que los árboles están menos activos y de la mano de profesionales capaces de lidiar con la burocracia que es, como en casi todo, cada vez mayor.
Tras la espera, fuimos a su encuentro a Bélgica y hoy tras un periodo de cuarentena uno de ellos luce ya en nuestro Tokonoma, recibiendo a los visitantes.
Collections have to be renewed, some leave to make room for those who come. The particularity of this collection is that it is alive, and the natural thing in something alive is change. It reflects the passing of the seasons and the cycle of life.
Young trees that reach maturity and become part of the exhibition, trees that end their life cycle and leave us or the case of new specimens that come from outside to become part of it.
Today we welcome two trees that arrive from Japan, after a very long journey. The trees travel by ship, conditioned to withstand the journey. The transfer is done during the months when the trees are less active and by professionals capable of dealing with the bureaucracy that is, as in almost everything, increasing.
After a long wait, we went to Belgium to meet them and today, after a period of quarantine, one of them is already in our Tokonoma, welcoming visitors.
Primavera/Spring
La primavera nos sorprende cada año; vemos los árboles y salimos al jardín varias veces al día, Los primeros signos: yemas que se van hinchando, mirlos en pie de guerra buscando desesperados, material para sus nidos. Y aun así un día de pronto nos sorprende la primavera.
Son días de muchas visitas, todos buscamos planes para salir después de los fríos del invierno. El jardín se llena de colegios, aficionados, familias y amantes de la naturaleza en general. La primavera compite con el otoño en términos de visitas, las dos estaciones muy breves. Con los primeros brotes de los arces, el jardín se llena de color, el deshojo brota de un color rojo intenso, el beni-shidori de color melocotón, el seigen, rosado…no pasará mucho tiempo hasta que con el sol sus hojas se pongan verdes y siga el ciclo imparable de los árboles, de las estaciones….continuará
Spring surprises us every year; we see the trees every day, we go out into the garden several times a day, we see the first signs: buds swelling, blackbirds on the warpath desperately searching for nesting material. And yet one day we are suddenly surprised by spring.
These are days of many visitors, we are all looking for plans to go out after the cold of winter. The garden fills up with school children, amateurs, families and nature lovers in general. Spring competes with autumn in terms of visits, the two very short seasons. With the first buds of the maples, the garden fills with color, the deshojo sprouts on a deep red color, the beni-shidori on a peach color, the seigen, pink…it won’t be long before with the sun their leaves turn green and the unstoppable cycle of the trees, of the seasons continues….

El ejemplar de la entrada ha vivido más de 300 años como árbol, pero solo 80 como bonsái. “El valor no es la edad. La edad te permite tener un tronco con mucho más carácter, pero el verdadero valor es el diseño, la forma que tiene”, explica Luis Vallejo (Madrid, 69 años), propietario de la colección a la que ha dedicado más de cuatro décadas y que ahora forma parte del Museo del Bonsái Luis Vallejo, en Alcobendas (Madrid).
